Here is some information I have gathered online about it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Lathraea squamaria<\/em>, commonly known as <strong>Common Toothwort<\/strong>, is one of the most peculiar and &#8220;mysterious&#8221; plants of the European flora, including Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It belongs to the <strong>Orobanchaceae<\/strong> family and its behavior classifies it as a <strong>parasitic plant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Biological Characteristics<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most striking feature of <em>Lathraea squamaria<\/em> is that it <strong>lacks chlorophyll<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Appearance:<\/strong> It has a characteristic pinkish, off-white, or slightly purple color. Parasitic Lifestyle<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Toothwort is a <strong>holoparasite<\/strong>. This means it depends entirely on the host plant for its survival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hosts:<\/strong> It parasitizes mainly the roots of deciduous trees, such as <strong>Hazel (Corylus)<\/strong>, <strong>Alder (Alnus)<\/strong>, and <strong>Beech (Fagus)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mechanism:<\/strong> It possesses specialized roots called <strong>haustoria<\/strong>, which penetrate the host&#8217;s roots to absorb water and nutrients (sugars).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Underground Life:<\/strong> Most of its life cycle takes place underground. It emerges on the surface for only a few weeks a year, exclusively to bloom and reproduce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Habitat<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can find it in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shady, damp deciduous forests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Near ravines or riverbanks where its hosts thrive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rich, humus-heavy soils.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4.
